Congrats, We’re All Racists!

Per HeatStreat:

The chief writing instructor at the University of Washington, Tacoma, is trying to dismantle the rules of grammar because he believes they are racist—and the college has given its endorsement to his campaign.

“Racism is the normal condition of things. Racism is pervasive. It is in the systems, structures, rules, languages, expectations and guidelines that make up our classes, school, and society,” the poster claims. It goes on to say that critiquing a student’s use of language, or implying that there is any one grammatical standard within the English language, is inherently discriminatory.

Congrats to all writers who use proper spelling and grammar. We all might as well strap red banners to our arms and where white sheets over our heads now, because we are racist.

Good God… where do I start with this one… You know… I get the feeling I know why this is happening. Across the United States, schools have been seeing a rapid decline in tuition rates because students aren’t going. This is partially because of the cost of going to college, but even the drastically cheaper state schools are seeing this decline, why?

Because politics ruins everything. The stories of teachers taunting students over political beliefs, the stories of teachers being fiercely liberal, the stories of indoctrination, and yes, the stories of classroom lobbying are no longer mythical. They are well-documented fact.

Heck when I was in college, I wanted to become a History teacher. I majored in history at The University of Massachusetts and minored in Education. The VERY FIRST EDU class I took for my minor almost drove me out of the profession all together. The professor had us reading Kozol and talking about economic inequities instead of… you know, teaching us how to teach, which was the whole point of the class!

I actually walked out of the class during one of the debates he set up. We were split into two parts; The Wealthy Town and the Poor Town. Then he assigned each of us roles. The rich town was assigned to be multi-millionaire businessmen, Trust Fund Tommys, and other corrupt 1%er stereotypes. While the poor side were given roles such as single mothers, struggling families, orphans, etc.

I was like… where are the families working two jobs a piece just to send their kid to the nicer schools? Where are the welfare queens? Where are the people paying for bad choices that were made all of their lives. This was all blatantly one-sided.

Yes my friends… this is why college enrollment rates are dropping. Because when people pay good money to get educated, THEY EXPECT TO BE EDUCATED, not indoctrinated! Not having some ideology shoved down their throats, and then being abused if they spit some of it back out.

So now as a result, these colleges are having to lower their academic standards hoping to bring in more people to fill the spots they lost.

The chief writing instructor’s statements abhorrently false. In speaking the language, you can have different dialects, slang terms, etc, but there are rules for proper grammar and spelling, especially primarily in writing, that make it very clear what you’re trying to get across.

Let’s take a rather old example, shall we?

Look at this sentence;

“Woman without her man is nothing.”

Grammatically speaking, this is all over the place and depending on who you show this too, they’ll get a laugh or be extremely offended. It’s hard to say because without punctuation and grammar to put it into context… you’re all over the place. You could be a sexist in at least two different ways, or you could be a white knight, who knows?

Need another example? Let’s take a look at the Take of Chang Big:

Chang Big-not: Old Chang gained much wealth by the time he reached his advanced age. His first wife, however, only bore him a single daughter, which he married to a decent seeming young man. The young man treated his father very honorably for the first year, ambivalently after the second year, but by the third year, he treated Old Chang very badly. The son-inlaw seemed confident of his inheritance of Old Chang’s fortune, and did not bother to give his father-in-law due respect.

Old Chang, a clever man, still lived in good health. Dreading that his fortune would fall into the hands of his horrible son-in-law, Old Chang, all of forty years old, arranged to marry a young woman from another village in the hopes of producing a son to carry the family name and fortune.

Old Chang may have been a very lucky man, or had the favor of the gods, and his new wife bore him a son soon after. He called his son Chang Tai Fei, meaning Chang Big-Not, but everyone called his son by the nick name “Chang Big.” Soon, Old Chang fell ill, and drew up his will. Chang Big was still too young to receive an inheritance and his illiterate mother would fall under the mercies of her son-and-law. So Old Chang conceived of a plan. He wrote two copies of his will in classical Chinese, which lacks capitalization and punctuation. He gave one to his son-in-law, and secretly gave the other to his wife. He told his wife to go to the magistrate on the day of her son’s majority so that he could claim his rightful inheritance.

Since the will lacked punctuation the son-inlaw’s imagination got away from him when he read the will, and it said “Chiang big—not my son—to whom all property belongs son-in-law—outsider forbidden inheritance.”

Years passed, and Old Chang’s wife and Chiang Big suffered horribly at the hands of the son-in-law. On the day that Chiang Big became a man; his mother took him to the magistrate and showed him the second will. The magistrate summoned the son-in-law, and held court to award the property. Thinking carefully, the magistrate asked the son-in-law, the birth name of Old Chiang’s son. Remembering only the boy’s nickname, he told the judge, “Chiang Big.” The judge turned to the mother of the boy and asked the same question, and she answered, “Chiang Big-Not.

The judge concluded that all legal documents must call their parties by their full birth names. Thus the will without capitalization or punctuation revealed, “Chiang Big-not, my son to whom all property belongs. Son-in-law, outsider, forbidden inheritance.”

If someone can help me cite this story, I’d appreciate it, because I found none.

Wow… who wrote that, Adolf Hitler?

And what’s worse, the University doubled down:

The University of Washington did not immediately respond to Heat Street‘s request for comment, but vice chancellor of student affairs, Dr. Jill Purdy, noted in her own official statement that the program “is a great example of how we are striving to act against racism. Language is the bridge between ideas and action, so how we use words has a lot of influence on what we think and do.”

Alumi who went to UWashington, pull your funding and demand that this Jill Purdy step down. This is wrong on so many levels and so offensive to me as a professional indie writer that it just royally pisses me off.

Anyway, leave a comment about what you think of this… I have too much else to do to be bothered any further.

Good God in Heaven… I can’t wait to see what happens when Generations Y and Z take over…

You Want More Trump?

So it seems like the DNC has learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING…

One of the frontrunners for the DNC chair made some pretty egregious statements during the candidates forums:

And the checklist…

#BlackLivesMatter shout out… pretty much immediately.
Divisive rhetoric regarding prejudice… Check.
Racist attacks on white people… Check.
Entire argument based around race without substance… Check.
Self-hating statement… Check

No apology… just doubling down… Check…

Piss off your constituents… Check…

Well everyone… you’d better pray that she doesn’t get the job. If she does, it’s just one more brick in the path to a second term, and the path is already pretty long…

Damn It, MSM!!

Give you a little background… I despise rapists. I’ve known many victims of it and seen how it can irreparably damage a victim’s life. Not only that, but regardless of what happens, the victim will never ever be the same, because the shadow of what happened will always loom over them.

They can ignore it, they can choose not to be the victim, but the spector of what happened will always be with them in some way, even if they don’t realize it.

Now if any victims of rape are reading this, I apologize, I don’t mean to drudge anything up…

But I do feel the need to touch on a rather, sensitive topic…

Migrant rape fears spread across Europe: Women told not to go out at night alone after assaults carried out in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland amid warnings gangs are co-ordinating attacks

  • Sweden has issued warnings to women to be wary of potential attacks
  • 15 young women have reported being groped by men in Kalmar, Sweden
  • Austrian police have come under fire after claims attacks were covered-up
  • Finnish police say they have information that the attacks are co-ordinated
  • Vienna’s police chief advises women not to go out on the streets alone
  • Cologne police chief Wolfgang Albers relieved of his duties over handling of New Year’s Eve sex attacks

Security authorities are growing increasingly concerned by the rising number of sex attacks by gangs of migrants which appear to be spreading across Europe.

Finland and Sweden today became the latest European countries to issue warnings to women to be wary of the threat of sex attacks following fresh reports of sexual assaults in the last week, while the Viennese police chief adviced women not to go outside alone in Vienna.

This is going on throughout Europe… and throughout it… our mainstream media (Except the NYtimes perhaps…) and most social justice groups, including feminists, have been completely silent about this.

The saying goes… the Silence is deafening!

Well… I’d like to add to that saying that the Hypocrisy is Beyond Lunacy.

Seriously, these are the same people who promote the myth about a Rape Culture on College Campuses here in America… but now they have abandoned their own people throughout Europe…

… why?

Well if I had to guess, I’d say its because this doesn’t suit their narrative. Right now, Trump has signed an executive order, banning migrants and refugees from Middle Eastern Countries and those in North Africa… and the media and the SJWs are too busy going after him… or they simply don’t want to address these issues because it runs counter to their narrative about the refugee crisis. They don’t want to have to address the potential that what Trump is doing in an effort to ensure that no terrorists or criminals get into this country via refugee status, MIGHT ACTUALLY BE PROTECTING THEM FROM WHAT’S HAPPENING IN EUROPE!!!

Now I expect this from the media. This is the type of thing that they do… but SJW feminists?

“As we see it just now, we recommend that women who go out late at night, rather not do it or that they go together as a group.”
-Stephen Jerand, Swedish Chief of Police.

So basically we’re not talking about an imposed curfew or anything mandatory, but because the refugees and migrants are more important than women’s rights, we’re telling you that you shouldn’t go out alone or at night…. So it’s basically one step down from the imposed women’s curfews in many Muslim countries.

When confronted as to whether or not it’s serious that the police are asking women to change their behavior, the chief responded…

“Yes, unfortunately that is the way it is but we think it is important.”

Right, because you can’t ask the migrants to change their behavior, that wouldn’t be PC, would it? Because we can’t hold them to the same standards that we expect from our own people…

WHY AREN’T FEMINIST GROUPS ALL OVER THIS!? Why have they not come out against this? Why have they remained silent, leaving their sisters-at-arms to fight alone. Do they really hate Trump and what he’s doing so much that they’re going to abandon the very principles of their movement, going to abandon the foundations of everything they stand for, because it doesn’t suit a misguided narrative?

Once again, I don’t like Trump. I don’t like Trump… but I’m willing to give him a chance and at least willing to acknowledge that a lot of what he’s doing might actually benefit the United States in the long run!

I feel like I need to start a new segment called ‘This is How You Get More Trump!’ Because it really is what’s going to happen at this rate. If they don’t think people are watching and aren’t aware of the inexcusable silence from SJWs on this… then they aren’t paying attention.

More and more every day I see more female bloggers, more female YouTube Commentators, and several others say that today’s feminism  does NOT speak for them and they want that made very clear.

Perhaps the most telling image of where feminism stands on their issues is this image that has been floating around…

This stupidity was touted by feminists during the women’s march… which for some reason became a feminist issue… whatever go watch the Roaming Millennial’s video on that insanity, I can’t personally be bothered.

So what’s wrong with this image? Well since feminists seem to be the ones who were carrying this… I dunno… I will say that Islam in many forms and feminism do not make good bedfellows. The Hijab is a symbol of religious modesty, enforced by male-dominated societies. Yes, ACTUAL patriarchies!

… and this is the representation that feminists want seen during a ‘Women’s Rights’ march?

Irony? You’re swimming in it!

Yeah it doesn’t really seem like 3rd and 4th Wave Feminism, or identity politics in general, knows what the hell they’re talking about or who they’re for or against… because I can honestly say that 1st and 2nd wave feminists would NEVER have tolerated what is going on in Europe and never would have tolerated an image like this. They would have knocked down the doors of capital buildings and demanded change.

But that’s not going to happen, why? Because it appears that feminism has been absorbed into the mishmash of identity politics known as SJWs… The end result being that they are now standing up for the things that they claim to disparage… at the expense of their own positions and screw anyone who disagrees with them or tries to point out the flaws in their arguments… because they’re just misogynistic/racist/bigoted people, right?

Yeah, THIS is how you get more Trump.

Back to Europe… people this needs to stop, call your politicians, write letters, get out there and protest, and above all VOTE!!! As an American, we already did that. We’ve done all we can to put a stop to this kind of insanity. The war is far from over, but at least on our side of the pond at this point, there is hope. We stand with you, but we can’t stand for you. You need to defend your own! Don’t let your government place a higher priority of foreign affairs than the people who pay their salaries!

And… I’m Done With Star Trek

Go ahead, oust me from the Geek Community with pitchforks and torches. I don’t care. This is the final nail in the coffin.

First it was the 2016 San Diego Comic Con Star Trek Panel that was nothing more than a boring Social Justice tirade by Producer Bryan Fuller. I watched it online, but everyone who was there that I know, told me that it was boring as hell and if you didn’t agree with their politics, it was painful.

Then Trek Against Trump reared it’s ugly head, spewing falsehoods, hyperbole, and talking about a path to the future… while shilling for Hillary Clinton… do you see the irony?

But I’ve already given them enough exposure on my blog… moving on…

Then they blunder into identity politics by making Sulu gay in the latest movie… which would be fine… had he been gay all along. Even George Takei, one of the biggest Gay spokespeople out there, took issue with this…

“I’m delighted that there’s a gay character…Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.”

… So basically Star Trek has gone the way of Marvel.

Now we have the new show, Star Trek Discovery. Which honestly… what tidbits we’ve seen so far look like crap, the ship is based on a design that was flatly rejected by Gene, and the makers of it seem more interested in talking about how there’s going to be an LGBT character, and the star is a non-white first officer instead of talking about the FREAKEN STORY!!! So you can kind of see where the focus is going to be…

Agenda > Story.

This falls under my rule about people not liking being preached at when they sit down to read, listen, or watch a story! They want enjoyment and the people who would enjoy that kind of thing are too busy out protesting Trump or hiding in their racially exclusive safe spaces (God I can’t believe those exist in this day and age) to give a care!

Again, I don’t care about the inclusion of these characters, but if they plan on focusing on them for the shallow point of pushing an agenda, the story will suffer. I will admit in the last Star Trek movie yes Sulu was gay, but it wasn’t a major plot point or point of contention. It was there, they showed it, and they moved on. That’s fine, I didn’t take issue with that. I thought it was kind of silly, but whatever.

I may watch an episode or two simply to see just how bad the show is.

Okay, now honestly, I could get past all of this, ALL of it, and continue to watch new movies coming out, and maybe attend conventions where Star Trek is present… if it weren’t for this last piece.

Star Trek Axanar’s lawsuit…

Now I’ve talked to a lot of people on either side of the line on this….

“Alec Peters went too far, he dug his own grave when he gave himself a salary, funded a studio, and said Axanar would be professional….”

That’s fine. Those people have great points and I don’t disagree with them. My issue comes with the settlement with CBS:

“Terms of the settlement agreement include an agreement to allow Axanar Productions to continue showing PRELUDE TO AXANAR commercial-free on YouTube and to allow Axanar Productions to produce the AXANAR feature film as two fifteen-minute segments that can be distributed on YouTube (also without ads).”

So basically CBS and Paramount are sticking to their guns on their fan film guidelines.

Which means no actors that have previously worked with Star Trek, no ability to raise enough funds to produce anything more than something set in someone’s basement, no longer than two 15 minute segments… it just gets worse and worse…

Essentially the fans are getting screwed over in every way. The fans that donated to Axanar will now not get the full length movie they wanted and will have to dream of what ‘could have been,’ future fan films is extremely bleak. They’ve stomped out things like Renegades, The New Voyages, among others…

People… this is not how you do it. If fans love your IP so much, that should be celebrated! Say what you will, Lucasfilms did it right. They put a few, nonrestrictive guidelines out there, and even offer rewards for the best fan films made every year. As a result, we have a plethora of fan films that look almost professional, they add immersion to the Star Wars Universe, and give fans a little something to enjoy between the official stuff. It’s simply an unspoken rule that everything produced by fans is NON-CANON and not recognized by Lucasfilms.

Has the Star Wars Franchise suffered because of this? Given that the toy stores continue to sell out of the figures I’m collecting on a regular basis (Grrr….), the movies set records when they hit the box office, and a continuous fan base that enjoys Star Wars from an almost religious standpoint.

Does Star Trek have that?

… … .. well put it this way if there is one constant at every convention I go to, it’s that for every 1 person that comes dressed as a Star Trek character, there are at least 15 people dressed as Star Wars characters.

CBS and Paramount has completely handled this the wrong way, their movies are met with uncertainty and they’ve completely overrun their IP with identity politics, which no one is going to tolerate for long.

So… I’m not replacing my copies of the Star Trek movies I own as the DVDs wear out. My collection of Star Trek items has been reduced to three model ships, and pretty much the only movie I watch from them is Star Trek II Wrath of Khan. My wife loves Voyager, but that’s another issue. Maybe that’s extreme, but I’m not putting money into the pockets of the people I view as ‘The Wrong People.’

Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments! I’m curious to hear the thoughts of other nerds/geeks.

Seriously Jim, it’s their IP. They own Star Trek, they have a right to decide how people use it, and how they want to use it. You’re really criticizing them for that?

Yes, they have every right to do with their IP as they see fit… that is their right by law. However it is also MY RIGHT to decide that I don’t like what they’re doing, that I don’t like how they’ve handled it, and not give them my business.

If they decide to steer their ship towards an iceberg, I’m not going to run into the pilot house, start yelling at the crew, and grab the wheel to turn it away. Nope, I’m going to jump into a lifeboat, yell ‘F#&% this ship,’ and row away shaking my head as I watch it sink. That’s my right, plain and simple. They can do what they want and so ca I.

The Geek Casualty.

I’ve heard a lot of talk lately since Trump was elected about how ‘We’ve  won the war against the regressive left!’ How their party, the democrats, are now in shambles as the republicans now dominate the senate, house, White House, soon the Supreme Court… and the majority of the elected governors. In addition, the mainstream media has been ripped to shreds in many ways. CNN has been exposed for its bias and has almost completely fallen while the other networks are doing everything they can to remain relevant… and its not working.

This isn’t just a U.S. phenomenon either in Britain, Brexit turned out to be a major upset and a severe blow to the globalist movement, and their conservative party is looking pretty good from an outsider’s standpoint. Theresa May is becoming hugely popular and ‘in touch with ordinary people.

In France, Francois Fillon won his primary by a landslide and speculation is that a far-left candidate wouldn’t make it past the first round of elections.
In Holland, a similar revolt is taking place as the Party for Freedom is now leading in the polls.

So now what are the left doing?

At this point… at least from looking at Michael Moore’s video, the only arguments the left has are falsehoods (Brexit regret, which is pure fantasy), shame and guilt. No facts, and he’s even talking out of both sides of his mouth. He says that this is the end of American while saying that Trump isn’t going to do a damn thing… well if he’s not going to do a damn thing, how is that any different from the last 16 years?

Anyway, not important right now…

So as you can imagine, this is a pretty good time for the right, the anti-establishment, and moderates on both sides of the isle who were sick and tired of the extremes on their party.

I’ve even heard many out there tout this move as a major victory against the regressive left, the SJWs, and the extremists… and for some, maybe it is…

… but for all?

As most of you know, geek culture is something that is very near and dear to me. Having grown up a gamer/comic and action figure collector/Sci-Fi & Fantasy reader, seeing geek culture enter the mainstream is uplifting on many levels.

Today, people no longer have to be ashamed of reading comics or collecting toys as adults. We don’t have to hide in the back of super hero movie theaters, our stores aren’t relegated to hidden, crumbling strip malls in the middle of nowhere, and our conventions get national media attention, which is great!

Yeah we’ve been riding high now for a decade or so… but something loomed on the horizon that I don’t think any of us expected.

Within a few years, our outlets came under fire. A virtual crusade appeared to have been launched by the social justice crowd against pretty much all things geek… and it seems very little was spared from these attacks by identity politics…

Let’s go through them one by one shall we?

Comic Books:

Marvel: Yes, yes we all already know my opinion on the Marvel Universe. Ever since the creation of the multiverse, Marvel has been upping the ante on changing the identities/sexual preferences/races of time-honored characters with little to no explanation, rhyme, or reason. Usually they just wind up throwing up their hands and say, “It’s in an alternate universe, so we can do whatever we want.”
The result has been a noticeable decline in the quality of their stories and a decline in people buying their books as they slowly crawl to the point where they are unreadable and DC is not far behind.
Originally Marvel dealt with social issues in a very scholarly and appropriate way. Using facsimile, alliteration, and metaphorical approaches to their narrative. This made for excellent stories while giving a very underplayed and passive statement that was effective without being preachy.
Storytellers like Stan Lee and Chris Claremont had it in their mind to make their cast more diverse in a very sensible and appropriate way… by retiring old characters as time went on and bringing in new ones to take up their mantles. However by the mid-80s, this was thrown out the window and some rather poor story lines and plot devices were thrown together that landed us in the mess we’re in today where now instead of doing things the way they were originally intended, we now have identity politics, social issues, and extreme left views literally being preached to the readers at the expense of good storytelling.

Even Stan Lee had something to say about it…

“I wouldn’t mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way. But we originally made him white. I don’t see any reason to change that… It has nothing to do with being anti-gay, or anti-black, or anti-Latino, or anything like that. I say create new characters the way you want to… I don’t see any reason to change the sexual proclivities of a character once they’ve already been established.”

Sadly, it doesn’t appear that Marvel or DC ever got the message. The result is many of us who don’t like being treated as stupid, bigoted, or just don’t like being preached at have since retreated to the indie comic realm… unfortunately for us, many of our favorite titles are in short supply and somewhat difficult to find on shelves.

Also… Wonder Woman was removed as the UN Ambassador because of whining.

TV & Movies

Ghostbusters: Yeah, we’ve all heard my thoughts on this one. No one like the condescension, forced girl-power message, hypocritical treatment of male characters, hypocritical treatment of the movies detractors, or the way the movie was greenlit in the first place.
When the trailer’s got a critical response, Sony manipulated the comments and ran with a narrative of hate, saying that all the movies detractors were white, trump-supporting man-babies… and the mainstream ate it up.

Comments included immaturity from one of the producers:

“I would assume there’s a very large crossover of people who are doubtful ‘Ghostbusters’ will be great and people excited about the Donald Trump candidacy… I would assume they are the exact same people. That movie is made by the great Paul Feig and stars the funniest people on Earth, so I couldn’t be more excited.”

-Judd Apatow

Similar comments from the perpetually unfunny, one-note actress who starred in it:

“what these guys don’t say when they’re typing is that their moms are like ‘get upstairs and take out the garbage! You’re forty five years old’”

-Melissa McCarthy

But perhaps the worst came from the… in my opinion, emotionally stunted director:

“Geek culture is home to some of the biggest assholes I’ve ever met in my life,”

-Paul Feig

Unfortunately NONE of these people have faced consequences or have even been served a piece of humble pie. The media has never called them out for their unprofessional behavior or unwarranted attacks on the fanbase. The end result to this being detractors wrongfully having to deal with public shaming for their opinions… these people include Richard Roeper and James Rolfe.
Sony apparently hasn’t gotten the message yet as Amy Pascale not only still has a job at Sony, but she is now trying to create… a Barbie movie starring,  Amy Schumer , and supposedly written by Lena Dunham… though I couldn’t find a source for this.

Star Trek: If you hated the JJ Abrams movies (I didn’t by the way) you’ll really hate what’s up next. The inkling of what was to come was a ‘bold’ move in making Sulu’s character gay, despite there being no evidence of it anywhere else in the Universe. Presumably this was done in honor of George Takei, known same-sex and civil rights activist, and the actor who played him on the original show and moves.

He apparently didn’t see it that way
“I’m delighted that there’s a gay character. Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.”

-George Takei

He later clarified his comments, but usually back-peddling comes as pressure from the community these people are activists for. So take that at face value.
That wasn’t the end of it for Star Trek either. The 2016 San Diego panel was ruined by producer Brian Fuller who essentially turned it into an hour-long social justice rant:

I know people who went to this panel and said it was boring, preachy, and they wound up leaving out of disgust and disappointment, having looked forward to this for months…

This was almost as bad as the ‘Trek Against Trump’ campaign that was basically a group of… almost everyone who worked on Star Trek coming together to shill for Clinton while detracting all those who not only voted for Trump, but refused to vote or voted 3rd Party. (No I will not be linking to their page. They don’t need more exposure.)

But they’re not done… no no no, now they have a new show coming out that will surround a female non-white officer, but also an LGBT character. Okay, I don’t have an issue with that, it’s fine, but do they really need to continuously tout it? We’ve heard more about these two characters than we have anything about the plot. The way it keeps coming up in every article about the show like it’s some huge phenomenon, makes me worry that they’re going to pull a Marvel and sacrifice story for preaching. I could be wrong and if I am, please let me know… because I don’t intend on watching it. After all of this, I have been completely disillusioned with Star Trek as it stands.

Star Wars: Thankfully this one hasn’t been hit as bad. Despite detractors who say that they’ve gone into identity politics with Rey, Jyn, and Fin, I don’t agree. One, Han Solo got a ton of air time, you’re forgetting Poe Dameron, and the story didn’t take a hit because the movies weren’t preachy!

… Unlike their writers!
“Please note that the Empire is a white supremacist (human) organization. Opposed by a multi-cultural group led by brave women.”
-Chris Weitz

Thankfully said tweet was deleted  and it looks like his entire account is gone now, but the internet never forgets!

MTV: Okay, I know I’m probably dating myself here a bit, but there was a time way back when MTV was considered part of Geek Culture… today though… it’s a hot bed of racial guilty, bigotry, and complete regressive ideology as evidenced by several of their videos…

Um… we really don’t want Kanye either… we don’t. No, he’s yours. You can’t get rid of him.

Thankfully, it does appear that they’re getting called out on it, but again the internet never forgets…

The ugliness of the regressive left has never looked so bad…

Anita Sarkeesian: This is just one example of many… This woman has become a spokesperson of the 3rd wave feminist community and has taken it upon herself to attack games and other geek outlets for their lack of diversity and what she views as a negative portrayal of women. She sees fit to criticize games even though she herself admits that she doesn’t play nor like games. This rings pretty hollow as she strikes me as the type who stuck her nose up at video gamers as a child, labeling them like everyone else did as unclean, unpopular, shut-ins living in a fantasy world… yet suddenly she can cash in on them since they’re now in the mainstream…

Okay, if that’s not bad enough, we also have companies like Nintendo blatantly editing dialogue in video games that they deep too extreme for Western Audiences. This is nothing new and has been going on since video games started getting made, but it doesn’t make it right.

This is far more minor and is usually restricted to the bigger cons… so being from Boston, we haven’t seen this happen yet. Suddenly feminist groups, many of whom have no background in anything geek, don’t read comics (Not all but many), and really have no stake in the geek community see fit to show up and tell the geeks how awful they really are.  As if said opinion is welcome.

So yes, perhaps in some peoples’ views, a great victory against overbearing identity politics, regression, extremism, hyperbole, and SJWs… maybe… but to those of us who are more center of the isle or just don’t conform to any of the political norms… in that we can actually think for ourselves, don’t see it that way. We more see the election as selling our soul to one devil to rid us of another.

Sadly, geek culture was a casualty here. We’ve seen a lot of what we hold dear drastically altered to the point where we don’t recognize it any more and when we complain, we’re abused and accused of all sorts of horrible things. The main problem is that comic collectors, geeks, nerds, and video gamers for many many years have been considered rejects and outcasts. We weren’t welcomed by what society considered ‘normal’ for the longest time. Now though as our numbers have group, mainstream society has noticed us, and as our numbers grew even larger, we became a big part of the societal norm.

Sadly as a result of this, those very people who told us to go back to our hole in the ground, are now trying to tell us how our hole in the ground should look and operate, and if we disagree, we’re misogynist, hateful, bigoted, etc. etc. and I’m not saying that in some cases, those labels aren’t warranted, but in most?

Geek culture essentially just wants to be left alone. If the mainstream wants in, that’s fine, but it’s the mainstream’s job to conform to our standards if they want to be a part of our movement, not the other way around.

Unfortunately, that’s not what happened… and as in every case when one culture impedes on another and imposes its views, a lot is lost on the way. That is the casualty of the social justice crusade that has ended in the political right taking over on an almost global scale. To quote too many villains…

“You may have won, but every victory has its price.”

Ours I fear, was far too high.

So Jim, you’re saying that you have an issue with minorities and women being portrayed in your medium?

No, of course not! As a rule, geek culture dating back to the 60s has been known for being extremely progressive and I find no issue with that! Having different cultures, skin colors, etc. is what made a lot of geek culture awesome in the first place. However there are ways of doing it without throwing it in people’s faces.

My issue comes in with the level of appropriateness. When story lines are sacrificed for the sake tokenism and preaching ideologies because they’re either too lazy or not savvy enough to work them into the writing/video/etc, when suddenly EVERYTHING has to become political and there is no refuge from it, and when suddenly one group of people think they can dictate societal norms and views on other people without any concern or regard for that groups fears, beliefs, feelings, or behaviors, and that group justifies said intrusion with the unqualified belief that they are the moral right, this is where my issue comes into play.

I’ve said it before and will say it again;

PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE BEING PREACHED AT! They don’t like being called racist/hateful/misogynist/bigoted without any justifiable cause.

And essentially that’s what’s being going on in geek culture for the past 5 years or so.

Take that as you will.
