From My Writing Playlist

I’ve heard this rather low and haunting music played over several audio books in the Star Wars Universe. Not on the general playlist, but I thought it merited a listen.

When to Listen: This would likely be a very specific one. Listen to this when writing about a distant evil. Something off on the horizon that cannot be avoided. Your character knows it’s there, fears it, but knows that no matter what he or she does, there is no escaping it. Sooner or later, whatever it is will catch them.

Not gonna lie, this song holds some nostaliga for me from my childhood. When I was young, for years, this song was everywhere. This new techo version of it is both it’s own thing and an awesome homage to the original song.

When to listen: Hmmm… I would say that this is a character reflection song. When a character is looking back on their life or a decision they made, this might be a good song to go with.

So here’s a little classical/sci fi music for everyone. From season 3 of Star Trek The Next Generation.

When to listen: This isn’t really a general playlist song. It’s too repetitive. That being said, it works if you’re looking to relax or cool down in between chapters, like I do, giving yourself a bit of a breather.
However if you’re looking for a good place to use it when actually writing… this is a pre-battle song. Close your eyes and listen to this music. Picture Lord Nelson standing on the deck of HMS Victory, looking out into the distance, knowing that somewhere out there, a combined Spanish and French Fleet awaited him. That the fate of the British Empire hung on this battle. It fits extremely well.

Got this one stuck in my head. Can’t help it. Not my fault!!! Seriously though, Beast in Black Berserker has become one of the better albums I own. I can’t wait to see where they go from here. Most of the songs on this album are really great.

When to Listen: When the hero confronts the villain. In most stories, before the final battle, the hero and the villain speak about the morals and ethics of their situation. This is a good place for this song.

From My Writing (Christmas!) Playlist

Well it’s about time to wrap up the Christmas Countdown this year on this December the 25th! For the grand finale, I give you one of my personal favorites! It has never truly been the Christmas season for me until this song was played. So to hear it sang by Andrea Bocelli…  I was thrilled, and I am thrilled to share it with all of you!

Merry Christmas from my family to all of yours around the world! Bless you on this most joyous of days! Hope today finds you surrounded by loved ones with many smiles and many happy cheers… and for those of us old enough, some decent booze!

When to Listen: What are you doing? Stop writing, right now! Put this song on speaker and let everyone hear it. This is something better shared! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

So this one is a little more solemn and more downplayed, but is a nice song nonetheless.

When to Listen: I would say that this is a song to listen to when winding down after writing.
